I wanted to do a post about the hidden gems of the World Showcase in EPCOT, but I could not decide which gem to write about so I am going to do a series of posts called World Showcase Wonders. I’ll highlight one gem in each pavilion. These are features that people might not notice as they hurry from store to store and restaurant to restaurant. At the end of this series I’ll have a downloadable brochure that you can print out and take to the parks so you can see of these gems for yourself. Today we are in France.
The France Pavilion has some fantastic restaurants. Boulangerie Patisserie has delicious pastries. (I highly recommend their creme brulee.) The gem of France for me though is not the food, but a photo opportunity. Where else am I going to get my picture taken with the Eiffel tower without buying an expensive plane ticket and a book on speaking French?
If you want to find the best place to take a picture at Walt Disney World look for Disney’s PhotoPass photographers. They work at all the most photogenic spots and will gladly take your picture with your camera as well as theirs. I love this program because it means everyone in the group can be in the picture. We came across a PhotoPass photographer on the bridge between The International Gateway and the France Pavilion. We handed our cameras over and the Cast Member took a great group picture of us with the Eiffel Tower and other French buildings in the background. This gem is a perfect memory of the France pavilion and not as fattening as a French pastry.
Goofy Trivia: The Eiffel Tower at the France Pavilion is a great example of forced perspective (creating the illusion that something is larger than it actually is). This replica is only 1/10 the size of the original and is exact in detail. It seems larger because it is positioned to appear far in the distance to the Guest. Forced perspective is a neat way to get a large item in a small space.
