I wanted to do a post about the hidden gems of the World Showcase in EPCOT, but I could not decide which gem to write about so I am going to do a series of posts called World Showcase Wonders. I’ll highlight one gem in each pavilion. These are features that people might not notice as they hurry from store to store and restaurant to restaurant. At the end of this series I’ll have a downloadable brochure that you can print out and take to the parks so you can see of these gems for yourself. Today we are in China.
The China Pavilion is a beautiful area filled with great stores, delicious restaurants, and a fantastic film, Reflections of China, that takes you on a breathtaking 360 degree tour of this immense country. It is worth spending some time going through all the different areas. If you need a break though, or if you are looking for a peaceful spot to rest while other members of your party go shopping, then check out this hidden gem of China, the reflection ponds.
You pass the ponds as you walk towards the ornate theatre housing The Reflections of China. Before you reach the building there are several benches, perfect for watching the fish swim and admiring the trees and buildings reflecting in the water. The Luxury Guide to Walt Disney World by Cara Goldsbury has this gem on her list of “Places for Romance” in the World Showcase. Spend some time enjoying this tranquil space. It might be worthy of a few pictures, too.
Goofy Tip: Do you want to see the World Showcase without walking? Take the Around the World at EPCOT tour and see everything from a Segway Personal Transporter. During this two hour tour, led by a cast member, you will get to experience the World Showcase before it opens and learn facts about each pavilion. It is a fun and entertaining experience. The tour costs $99 and requires an EPCOT admission ticket. Don’t worry if you’ve never been on a Segway. Training is provided and I can attest that even the most uncoordinated person can ride one.
