I am currently planning my next trip to Walt Disney World in January 2012. For the most part I plan to eat at moderately priced restaurants that are in the area where we will be when we get hungry. However, I always plan to visit one special restaurant. Usually these are expensive, but the food and ambiance are worth the price. Every time I plan an evening around a certain restaurant it has been one of the best memories of the trip.
In the past I have been to the Brown Derby in Disney Hollywood Studios and Jiko at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Both of these restaurants are not to be missed. I am not recommending that you blow your dining budget on fancy meals every night. Pick one extra special restaurant and make time to enjoy the entire experience. If you need help picking a first class restaurant I would check out The Luxury Guide to Walt Disney World by Cara Goldstein. She gives great advice on how to get the most out of your dining experience.
Where am I planning to go in January? If we can get reservations I want to eat at California Grill at the Contemporary Resort. Besides having amazing food and service, if you get the right table at the right time you can see the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom and even at EPCOT. I can’t think of anywhere better to enjoy an evening with friends.
Goofy Tip #20 Many of the high end restaurants at Walt Disney World have dress codes. They are not usually ultra-strict, but why not go for the glam. Have everyone dress up in their nicest clothes, brought for this occasion. The pictures will be worth a thousand words. Happiness squared.
