I am a big fan of staying on property when visiting Walt Disney World. There is a ton to do and see, the transportation is free, and you get Extra Magic Hours. But where should you stay? The resorts are broken into Value, Moderate, and Deluxe Resorts. There are also villas, Disney Vacation Club and the Fort Wilderness Campground. It seems like a big decision.
If you think a moderate resort would fit your needs I have a recommendation. Stay at the Port Orleans Resort – Riverside. I have not stayed at every resort, but I would go back to this one in a heartbeat. Here are ten reasons why:
1) The grounds are beautiful. It is wonderful to walk around and see the buildings reflecting off the water.
2) The boat takes you directly to Downtown Disney where you will find wonderful restaurants and shops.
3) The bus stops to the parks are right outside Colonel’s Cotton Mill (the main building) making them easy to get to no matter where your room is.
4) The Riverside Mill food court has a great variety of food for any meal. It is as fun to eat there as in the parks.
5) There are fun pools for the kids and horse drawn carriage rides for a romantic afternoon.
6) The cast members are the most helpful I have ever encountered at any of the resorts I have stayed at. It seems they have perfected southern hospitality
7) You’ll feel like Scarlet O’hara and Rhett when you arrive at your antebellum style building.
8) It has a very relaxed feeling that is a nice change from the hustle and bustle of the parks.
9) You can book a room inspired by the Princess and the Frog. Jump into the movie and all of its bayou magic.
10) The best reason to stay. Yehaa Bob performs two nights a week in the River Roost Lounge. He is the best show on the property. Not to be missed!!!
There are lots of great resorts because this is Disney and they don’t do anything in half measures. I give Port Orleans Riverside five Goofy’s and you can’t get any better than that in my book.
Goofy Tip: On your first evening enjoy dinner at the resort. But before you head to the main building amble along the Sassagoula River and admire the architecture. It is worth the walk and bring your camera. You never know what will be reflecting in the water.
