One of the many reasons to stay on property at a Walt Disney World resort is all the free activities you can do during your stay. I just got done spending six days at Port Orleans, French Quarter and was impressed with the variety of fun events we discovered at the resort. There are activities for kids, adults, and families so everyone will have a blast.
Here are four awesome activities I discovered at Port Orleans.
1) Beads. When you are shopping at the store ask for some Mardi Gras necklaces. The Cast Members give these festive beads out free and they are a fun way to celebrate your stay.
2) Movies. Imagine watching Tangled or the Lion King on a huge screen while sitting on the grass with your family and a bowl of popcorn. Movies are scheduled on Friday and Saturday nights on the lawn. There is plenty of room for everyone.
3) Nightime entertainment. On selected nights talented singers and entertainers perform at the lounges in many resorts. The schedule changes so ask at the front desk. If you are staying at Port Orleans, Riverside I suggest rearranging your schedule so you can see Yehaa Bob. Show up early and plan to stay late. His show is my favorite in all of Walt Disney World.
4) Marshmallows. This one caught me by surprise. At Port Orleans, French Quarter they have a fire pit by the Sassagoula River and every evening Cast Members put on a marshmallow roast. They provide the sticks, fire, and marshmallows. All you have to bring is your sweet tooth. The next time I stay at a Walt Disney World resort I will be sure ask ahead of time what events are happening. I would have hated to miss such a fun activity.
So there are four free things to do at Port Orleans. I bet the resort you are staying at has even more activities. Ask at the front desk when you check in and add more fun to your trip. Happiness squared.

Goofy Tip: Take a walk. The resorts are carefully designed and beautifully landscaped. Take a stroll around and you will find lots of surprises. Be sure to bring your camera because you never know when you will stumble upon a Mardi Gras parade made up of alligators, or anything else equally as unexpected.
