The new attractions at Cars Land in Disney California Adventure are very inventive and well-themed. Where else can you whip around behind run-away tractors or race through the desert like Lightning McQueen? In Cars Land you can even float over the ground in oversized tires. Wait? What is fun about that? Welcome to Luigi’s Flying Tires, an attraction not seen since Disneyland had Flying Saucers in the 1960s.
Luigi’s Flying Tires is unique in many ways. There is no track and there is no steering wheel (a tire with no wheel?!). To move around everyone on your tire has to lean in the same direction. Yes, your group has to work together. That might be difficult for some people. But if you can get going it is quite fun to float along over 6,000 air vents. But so what? Is that all it is? All you do is just float around on an 9-foot tire? Well, yes if you want. Or, it can become much more.
Two ways to have fun on Luigi’s Flying Tires:
1) Just do whatever. If you just want to float around without any destination that is fine. Some people like relaxing and letting other tires bump them. Enjoy! But if you want to try something else you could…
2) Decide on a destination. My friend and I wanted to see what our tire could do so we picked a destination and headed for it. First we headed for the near wall. Once we reached that we decided to bump our friends’ tire. That was fun! We then decided we wanted to reach the far wall before our time was up. We bumped and got bumped but by working together we made it to the other side. It was awesome!
When you visit Cars Land don’t miss this one-of-a-kind ride. No matter how you move you’ll feel like you’re floating on air. Happiness squared.
Goofy Tip: For the most fun figure out how to move your tire before you get into it. There are murals and handouts that explain what you need to do as you stand in line. Also watch the other Guests as they maneuver their tires. You’ll quickly learn what to do and what not to do.
