The one thing that Disney does better than most is tell an entertaining story. Every attraction starts with a story and even if we don’t know the background it is infused into every part of the ride. Sometimes the story of a ride can remain elusive for years and then blossom into something memorable and fun. That is going to happen to the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at the Magic Kingdom.
There is a new character in town and his name is Barnabas T. Bullion. He owns the Big Thunder Mountain Mining Company. Legend says that if anyone tries to take any gold from Big Thunder Mountain horrible things will happen. Barnabas T. Bullion believes that he can get the gold because of his name. In the new interactive queue coming to the “wildest ride in the wilderness” you’ll get to learn more about Mr. Bullion’s attempt to find gold.
Interactive queues are one of several ways that Disney is trying to make standing in line less boring. At some attractions, like Dumbo the Flying Elephant in the new Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom they have done away with the line completely in favor of “Play while you Wait.” That would not work at Big Thunder Mountain and some of the other ultra-popular attractions that have to have a line so they developed the interactive queue. I look forward to having a wait time once this is done. How often do I say that? Happiness squared.
Goofy Tip: You don’t have to wait for the changes at Big Thunder Mountain to have fun in an interactive queue. Head over to the Haunted Mansion in the Magic Kingdom for great fun while standing in line. Be careful though. There are two lines and only one of them is interactive. For the goofiest time pick the interactive one.
