If you have had a busy day in the parks and feel you need a break, a great idea is to head back to your resort and rest in the afternoon. Doing this will give you the energy you need to make it through the fireworks show that evening. Some people take a nap, others go for a swim. Me, I like to take a walk.
I hate to make rules on how to take a walk, so we’ll call these more like guidelines.
5 rules guidelines for taking a recharging walk:
1) Don’t take anything with you. Leave the bag with all the guidebooks, snacks, and jackets in your room. Take your camera is you want, but only if it won’t weigh you down.
2) Don’t have a destination. Most of the resorts have lovely winding paths that lead you to beautiful areas. Follow a path, but don’t worry about where you are going.
3) Slow down. This is not a forced march to the next attraction. Think of it more as a stroll than a race.
4) Look around. Walk slow enough so that you can notice what is around you. You will discover many hidden gems when you take the time to look.
5) Don’t think too hard. There are lots of items to remember on a Disney vacation. During this walk don’t think of any of them. If you can’t slow your brain down try naming the seven dwarfs. This will occupy your mind so it forgets what it thinks it should think about.
Don’t be surprised to find that you don’t want your walk to end. The landscaping at the resorts has much to offer the Guest who slows down and explores without a plan. When your walk is over and the energy is back up remember that you can always come back and take another walk if you need to recharge another day. Try a different path, or try a different time. The best part is that it is never the same twice. Happiness squared.
Goofy Tip: Recharging walks work as well at home as they do at the parks. When you get the afternoon blahs don’t reach for caffeine, or take a nap that has you waking up groggy. Instead walk out the door and follow the 5 guidelines. You will come back feeling stronger and you might just discover something new about your neighborhood.
