Happy (belated) Birthday, Mickey Mouse

A birthday card to Mickey Mouse:

“Late” is such and ugly word…

Let’s just say this birthday wish is “promptness challenged!”

Last Friday I did a fun post on Disney Thanksgiving crafts. If I had looked at my calendar closer I would have seen that was Mickey Mouse’s 83rd birthday. Oops! So I am sending birthday wishes a little late, but as I always like to celebrate my birthmonth and not just my birthday, we’ll just say I am doing the same thing here.

The celebration starts with some fun Mickey Mouse trivia and then ends with a gift from me to you. Enjoy!

  1. Mickey Mouse was created by Walt Disney while he was traveling on a train with his wife, Lillian. He had just found out he didn’t own the rights to his current cartoon character, Oswald the Rabbit. So he started over and drew a mouse. He wanted to name it Mortimer, but Lillian didn’t like that name, so he changed to Mickey. And a star was born!
  2. Walt and his team animated two silent Mickey Mouse cartoons before presenting him to the world in Steamboat Willie.  Steamboat Willie premiered on November 18, 1928 to great reviews.
  3. Walt Disney provided the voice of Mickey and Minnie Mouse and would do so for years to come.
  4. Mickey Mouse has appeared in over 130 animated films, from cartoons, to short films, to the full length movie, Fantasia.
  5. Mickey Mouse was the first animated character to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

He has been a busy mouse. As my gift to you click on the link below and enjoy watching Mickey Mouse’s debut cartoon, Steamboat Willie. He has come a long ways in 83 years, but as Walt Disney said, “I only hope that we don’t lose sight of one thing – that it was all started by a mouse.”

A Goofy Joke: (featuring Mickey Mouse, in honor of his birthday)

Q: Why did Mickey Mouse take a space ship to outer space?

A: He was looking for Pluto!
