Don’t Forget Your Death Certificate

It’s always Halloween at the Haunted Mansion. This is a classic Disney attraction and one that never gets old, no matter how often you ride. Being able to recite the entire introduction only makes the ride more special to me as it does for many others.

The Disney Imagineers make changes every once in a while. Some of the changes are small, like a new effect along the ride. Some of the changes are big like bringing Jack Skellington and the rest of the gang from Nightmare Before Christmas to the Haunted Mansion during the Christmas season. This overlay includes spooky lights and a six foot tall haunted gingerbread house.

Personally, I like the everyday Haunted Mansion, but whenever you visit this is a ride not to be missed. In the mean time enjoy these fun facts about this ghoulish delight.

5 fun facts about the Haunted Mansion:

1) The Haunted Mansion can’t pick just one land. As befitting a haunted ride, the Haunted Mansion is found in different lands in different parks. How many have you visited?

Disneyland: New Orleans Square
Magic Kingdom: Liberty Square
Tokyo Disneyland: Fantasyland
Disneyland Paris: Frontierland

2) The organ in the ballroom scene is from the movie 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The original is at the Disneyland Haunted Mansion and a replica is at the Magic Kingdom.

3) Look for the Viking opera singer at the end of the attic scene. This large woman is near the end of the ride. How do you know the ride is coming to an end? Because it’s not over ’til the fat lady sings!

4) Introduce yourself to the “Hitchhiking Ghosts.” They have names and would love to know yours. The little ghost with the ball and chain is Gus, the tall, skinny ghost is Ezra and the hunchback is Phineas. Be friendly, or they’ll go home with you!

5) The ballroom ghosts appear to us because of a neat trick. That trick is called Pepper’s Ghost. I won’t say any more, but if you are curious how the trick is done then click on the link. Otherwise, forget I ever said anything.

The Haunted Mansion is one of those classic Disney attractions that appeal to Guests of all ages. I hope you get to visit the grim, grinning ghosts very soon. Happiness squared.

Goofy Tip: When you get in line at the Haunted Mansion in Walt Disney World there are two lines to choose from. One line is a traditional Haunted Mansion queue with tombstones to read, but not much else. The other line is interactive. You can touch things and they make sounds. The tombstones have special effects, also. Which line will you choose?
