Celebrate Summer with Dumbo

Summer is in full swing and the temperature is rising. I’ve often wondered why August, a long, hot month, doesn’t have an official holiday in it. Perhaps it is too warm to barbecue or we’re all partied out from Father’s Day and the 4th of July. I think we need a party to celebrate the magic of summer and to have one last hurrah before school starts. So let’s have a Dumbo party.

I’ve talked about familyfun.com often on this website and all the great holiday themed printables you can find there. They have made a lot of changes to the website including its appearance and even its name. Familyfun.com is now spoonful.com. The website still has the same great crafts, recipes,  and party ideas, but now they give you a spoonful in your email every day. (Click here to subscribe for free.)

Today when I opened spoonful.com I saw the cutest Dumbo printable I’ve ever seen. I had to make one! Along with this cute guy there are printables for hats and cool toys. They also provide fun recipes for elephant ears and other circus themed food. All these ideas say party to me. So make a hat for everyone, serve up some  chicken with peanut dipping sauce and put Dumbo on your TV. No matter how hot it is outside your guests will be cool as crows while they discover that elephants can fly. Happiness squared.

Goofy Tip: These printables would also make great decorations for a birthday party or a going-back-to-school party. If you have a child just starting school Dumbo is a great theme for a start-of-school party. Along with all these ideas I would give each child their own magic feather so they can be as confident as Dumbo. Instead of making the crafts beforehand give each child a printed sheet and have them make their own hats and toys. It is a great way to spend a late summer afternoon.
