A Goofy Word: Plussing

One of the things I love to do is introduce people to new ideas. So when I visit Walt Disney World I have a Disney word that I teach my group each day. It is a word they can use throughout their visit and is a great way to get to know the parks better. They realize that what they see was carefully thought out, and yes, given a name.

Today’s Goofy Word is: Plussing

According to The Imagineering Field Guide series plussing is “A word derived from Walt’s penchant for always trying to make an idea better. Imagineers are continually trying to plus their work, even after it’s “finished.””

Everywhere you look in the parks you see plussing. See that grassy area in front of the Hollywood Brown Derby at Disney Hollywood Studios? The landscapers could have just left it grass, maybe added a row of flowers. Instead they added a Sorcerer’s Mickey topiary and designed brooms that pour flowers out of their buckets. That’s plussing.

As you introduce this word to your group have each of them point out something that was plussed. You won’t have to walk far to find dozens of examples.

Goofy Tip #39 Plussing is an idea that you can use in your own life. Look around your space. Is there something there that is perfectly fine that could be plussed? Would plussing it make you happier? If yes, then what are you waiting for? Plus away.
